The role of microbiota in brain homeostasis during adulthood and early life

Abstract

This project will help to understand the basic mechanisms leading to learning and memory functions and this will pave the way for new discoveries to treat human populations affected by chronic neurological memory/cognitive disorders.

Mus musculus is the animal model used in this proposed project. Host tissues like brain, intestine, and lymphoid organs will be analysed.

The results from this project will help to understand how the microbiota and, in particular, the maternal and early life microbiota impact the function of the central nervous system. In addition, how perturbation of this system through antibiotic interventions will affect the central nervous system homeostasis.
