Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis is a prevalent beneficial bacterium that colonizes the human neonatal gut and is uniquely adapted to efficiently use human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) as a carbon and energy source.
Bifidobacteria are associated with a host of health benefits and are typically dominant in the gut microbiota of healthy, breast-fed infants. A key adaptation, facilitating the establishment of these species, is their ability to consume particular sugars, known as human milk oligosaccharides (HMO), which are abundantly found in breastmilk.
Atopic Dermatitis (AD) is the earliest and the most common manifestation of allergies. Recent studies have shown that allergies were associated with a disruption of the gut microbial ‘balance’ suggesting that the use of nutritional intervention very early in life may restore an optimal pattern of microflora aiming at improving the host’s health.

On the 1st and 2nd of July 2023, BINC China held the 7th annual Biostime Institute for Nutrition and Care (BINC) symposium in Kunming, China. Researchers from renowned institutes from across China presented important scientific advances in breastmilk research, infant microbiome, immune system maturation and HMOs as the next frontier in China.
In May, the BINC team attended the annual meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN Annual Meeting). More than 4,000 global visitors got together for networking around science and infant nutrition with key opinion leaders, partners and practitioners.
